Foundations Systems
Our multilayer self-adhesive waterproofing system, for up to 12m deep basements.
Lateral movement of water is one of the main reasons for post construction leakage. With Watertite S2012, a highly efficient multilayer self-adhesive membrane system, such cases will be well protected with superior performance waterproofing solution.
Polyprime SB, Bitustick R 3000, Bitustick R 400, Bitumastic
As with any waterproofing membranes, proper application is of paramount importance to obtain optimum product performance. A smooth regular and dry surface is always a must for good application. The substrate should be completely free of any protrusions or cavities. The presence of oily materials, frost, dampness, moisture and any other contaminants should be completely removed.
Apply Polyprime SB* (Solvent based primer) @4-6 m²/L to a clean, smooth and dry surface by brush, roller or spray. Allow the primer to dry prior to the application of the membrane. The primer promotes the adhesion between the membrane and the concrete surface.
Horizontal First Layer
- Unroll only the required length, and cut the piece to the desired shape and size.
- Place the pieces of membrane on the area to be covered, and check whether they match with the profile of the marked substrate.
- Peel off release film and carefully place the membrane so as to ensure a minimum of 75mm overlap and then smoothen the membrane from the centre to the edges in order to drive out entrapped air.
- In case the concrete structure is at a greater depth or is going to be exposed to site conditions / weather for a long period, place Bituboard asphaltic protection board on top of the membrane soon after the application in order to prevent any damage to the membrane.
Horizontal Second Layer
- Second layer membrane shall be installed on the same direction as that of the first layer, but started on a 50% staggered position. This means the side laps of the second layer of membrane shall fall exactly in center between of any two side laps of the first layer membrane, or simply 50% away from the 1st layer’s side lap.
- Care should also be taken that the end laps of the second layer should not fall directly over the end laps of the first layer, but at least 1m away from it.
- Peel off the release film from the self-adhesive side of the second layer membrane and start unrolling the membrane and press it to the surface of the first layer simultaneously while unrolling, unrolling to fully adhere on the first layer and smoothen the membrane form the center to the edge in order to drive out entrapped air with a smooth press/roller.
- A smooth iron roller shall be used for rolling on the top of the applied membrane to ensure a proper and strong adhesion of the bitumen compound.
Verticle First Layer
- Apply Polyprime SB to the prepared corner areas, allow to dry and apply reinforcing strips of 200mm width cut out from the Bitustick R3000 membrane shall be applied on all the corner joints (Internal and external).
- Begin membrane application by unrolling the rolls and aligning the side laps. Then slowly unroll the membrane and start the installation of the first layer membrane of the system by loosely laying it on the vertical retaining wall/shoring wall.
- Peel off the release film from the overlaps (selvedges) and press the membrane, an iron roller shall be used to ensure a proper and strong adhesion of the bitumen compound at the overlaps.
- Also, a mechanical fixing of the first layer at the top of shoring wall/ retaining wall is recommended as the case may be.
Verticle Second layer
- Second layer membrane shall be installed on the same direction as that of the first layer, but started on a 50% staggered position. This means the side laps of the second layer of membrane shall fall exactly in center between of any two side laps of the first layer membrane, or simply 50% away from the 1st layer’s side lap.
- Care should also be taken that the end laps of the second layer should not fall directly over the end laps of the first layer, but at least 1m away from it.
- Peel off the release film from the self-adhesive side of the second layer membrane and start unrolling the membrane and press it to the surface of the first layer simultaneously while unrolling, smoothen the membrane form the center to the edge in order to drive out entrapped air with a smooth press/roller.
- A smooth iron roller shall be used for rolling on the top of the applied membrane to ensure a proper and strong adhesion of the bitumen compound.
- Side overlaps shall be a minimum of 50 mm on the selvedge and end overlaps 100 mm, precautions and application procedure is to be followed as per the 1st layer application.
Third Layer
Peel off the release film from the self adhesive side and start unrolling the membrane and press it to the surface. Smoothen the membrane from the center to the edges in order to drive out entrapped air with a wooden press. Furthermore, an iron roller shall be used for rolling on top of the applied membrane to ensure a proper and strong adhesion of the bitumen compound with the base surface. A 50mm selvedge is provided on one side of the membrane to give a bitumen-to-bitumen contact on the overlaps. However, the end overlaps will be butt jointed as the bitumen will not adhere to the polypropylene fleece. To provide a water tight seal and restrict any water penetration through these butt joints, a min. 200mm wide strip of a double sided bitumen adhesive membrane (Watertite TS 15)* shall be laid on that area prior to the application of the membrane. Once the bitumen strip is put in place, remove the silicone release film from the top and expose the self adhesive bitumen. The Bitustick R 400 membrane will then be applied on top of the exposed Watertite TS 15 overlapping by 100mm. The subsequent membrane will then be overlapped with the other 100mm of Watertite TS 15.
The sealant can be applied by means of a spatula or trowel. As the product is solvented, it is recommended to mix the contents of the pail with a paddle mixer for a few minutes prior to the application to ensure a homogenous mix. Sealant application should start form the bottom of the joint/groove and continued to the top. Immediately tool the joint with the spatula or putty knife to smoothen and compress the sealant to effect total contact with joint surfaces. The putty knife shall be moistened with a cleaning solvent to prevent the sealant to adhere to the knife and ensuring a smooth and neat finish. Where masking tape has been employed to keep building surfaces clean, it is advisable to remove them at the moment the sealant filling is completed.
